Music Teacher at Jackson High School, Department Chair of Music and Fine Arts. Currently in 22 nd season with the Jackson Symphony Orchestra as Principal Trumpet. Founding member of the Jackson Symphony Orchestra Community Music School, former Music School Coordinator. Serves as adjunct teacher with Albion College, Spring Arbor University and Jackson Community College. Member of the International Trumpet Guild, International Jazz Educators Association, Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association. Joel is currently the District 8 President for MSBOA. Has held many positions with the Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association, including Vice President of the District 8 MSBOA-Adjudication as well as Band Festivals, Solo and Ensembles, Music Education, Jazz Festivals and Festival Improvement Committees. Joel is active as an adjudicator for Band, Orchestra, Solo and Ensemble, and Jazz for the MSBOA-District and State Festivals; as well as being active as a clinician and workshop presentor. Member of the Jackson Youth Symphony Board of Directors, having served as President, Vice President and Librarian. Former member of the Jackson Symphony Orchestra Board of Directors, Jackson Community Foundation Board of Directors and Teachers Fund Committee.

Joel Shaner was recently named Secondary Teacher of the Year for Jackson Public Schools. Joel resides in Jackson with his wife Beth, and their three children…Evan 22, Ryan 19 and Katie 15, and is an active member of First United Methodist Church in Jackson.
