JSO Awards Golden Baton

The Jackson Symphony Orchestra awarded its first Golden Baton to Lawrence L. Bullen at the 50th Anniversary Gala Celebration held Friday, April 28th at the Country Club of Jackson. The Golden Baton is given in recognition of outstanding commitment and service to the Arts in our community and is a new tradition for the organization. Mr. Bullen has served the Jackson Symphony Orchestra as a member of the Board of Directors since 1979. Throughout his 20 plus year association with the JSO, Larry has distinguished himself as a tireless worker lending significant time, effort and financial support to the orchestra. Larry played a key role as a guiding force in the organization's growth and success, including drafting the current JSO By-Laws. He has served in numerous capacities over the past two decades including the Advancement Campaign Steering Committee, Campaign Cabinet, and most recently the JSO 50th Anniversary Committee. A mentor for musicians, quality music performance and education programs, Larry has personally raised over $400,000 from individuals within the community in support of the orchestra, JSO Community Music School and JSO Advancement Campaign. Beyond the realm of music, Larry has also distinguished himself as a driving force of quality community projects and as one of those fine individuals that takes seriously and personally, the challenge and commitment to making our community a place we are all proud to call home.
