Meet Our Musicians: Carolina Melchiori

Carolina Melchiori was born in Argentina and begun her music studies of double bass at the Escuela de Musica 9901, where she studied with Norberto Juez. She completed her Bachelor Degree in Music Performance in 2004 and Master Degree in Music Performance in 2006 at the University of Georgia in USA, under Dr. Milton Masciadri.
Throughout her career Carolina has participated in exchange programs in USA and Italy and played solo concerts and recitals in Argentina, Paraguay, Brazil, USA, and Italy. Furthermore, she has also participated in numerous master classes and in the Elite Soloist Double Bass Program at the University of North Texas led by Professor Jeff Bradetich. Carolina has been the coordinator and string teacher of the precollege string program at the University of Georgia and bass instructor at the UGA Community Music School. Carolina teaches master-classes in Argentina every summer, has been the guest artist of II Encuentro International de Contrabajistas in Asuncion, Paraguay, clinician of the Michigan High School Invitational, clinician of the 2009 PMEA Recional Orchestra in Pennsylvania, and guest artist of the 2009 bass weekend at the University of Texas Pan-American. She has played as a soloist with orchestras such as the Santa Fe Symphony Orchestra in Argentina and the Erie Chamber Orchestra in the USA.
She has performed as principal bassist of Athens Symphony and in the bass section of several orchestras in USA such as the Augusta, Charleston, Columbus, and Gainesville Symphony Orchestras, among others. Carolina has performed with the University of Georgia ARCO Chamber Orchestra at the Carnegie Hall of New York in 2004. Carolina was First Prize winner of the “Mozarteum Competition” in Argentina, winner of the University of Georgia Orchestra Concerto Competition, USA, and semifinalist of the ISB Solo Competition. Carolina has performed on recordings done with the ARCO Chamber Orchestra and recently published an article about the Argentinean bassist and composer Salvador Amato in the International Society of Bassists magazine.
Presently, Carolina is Double Bass Instructor at Edinboro University of Pennsylvania and Allegheny College, in Pennsylvania. She is simultaneously pursuing the degree, Doctoral in Musical Arts in Double Bass Performance, at Michigan State University, where she studies with Professor Jack Budrow. Carolina is also Principal Bass of Midland Symphony Orchestra, in Michigan, teacher of double bass at the MSU and EUP Community Music Schools, and performs regularly with Lansing, Jackson, and Battle Creek Symphony Orchestras.
