Meet Our Musicians: Katie Swaydis
Katherine Swaydis earned a Bachelor of Music degree from the Oberlin Conservatory, where she studied with Roland Pandolfi. She performed with the Oberlin Orchestra at Walt Disney Hall in Los Angeles as part of Oberlin’s West Coast Tour. While in Los Angeles, Ms. Swaydis performed in several public schools with her brass quintet. An advocate for music education, Katherine was selected to be Professor of Horn for the Asociacion National de Conciertos Youth Music Camp in Panama City, Panama in 2007 and 2008. While in Panama, Katherine performed Mozart’s Horn Quintet in Panama’s Reina Torres de Arauz. Ms. Swaydis attended the Aspen Music Festival in 2007 and 2009. She has also had the opportunity to substitute with the Chautauqua (NY), Lansing, Jackson, and Plymouth (MI) Symphony orchestras. Additionally, Katherine enjoys performing contemporary music. She has performed as part of the June in Buffalo festival, the Oberlin Contemporary Music Ensemble, and Michigan State University’s premier contemporary group, Musique 21. Currently, Katherine is finishing her Master of Music degree at Michigan State University, where she holds a Graduate Assistantship and studies with Janine Gaboury.
