Meet Our Musicians: Katie Williams
Katie Williams started playing viola at age 11 in her elementary school string orchestra in Clemson, SC. She immediately knew that music would be her profession. When she was 14, she moved to Savannah, GA and attended the Savannah Arts Academy, majoring in String Instruments. In her spare time she performed with the Beaufort (SC) Chamber Orchestra and Savannah Civic Orchestra.
After graduating high school, she moved to East Lansing, MI to study with Robert Dan at Michigan State University. In 2006, she graduated with a B.M. in Viola Performance and in 2008 she received her M.M in Viola Performance.
Katie currently holds the Principle Viola position with the Battle Creek and Rochester Symphony Orchestras. She is also a member of the viola sections in other orchestras such as the Flint, Midland, Southern Great Lakes, Oakland, Macomb County, and Livonia Symphonies.
In addition to orchestral playing, Katie is an avid chamber music musician. She participates in concerts in the Detroit area, and has traveled to participate in international chamber music festivals in Vermont and Quebec.
Katie currently lives in Wixom, MI where she maintains a small private teaching studio. In her spare time she enjoys, reading, yoga, and spending time with friends and family.
