61 Years Young - more imaginative, vibrant, and relevant than ever!

October 2, 2010 -- STRANGE BEDFELLOWS
Composers who lived approximately at the same time but approached their art in very different and unique ways. Internationally acclaimed pianist Ian Hobson (not one of the strange bedfellows) will perform Schumann's Piano Concerto, having just recorded it earlier that week in London. In addition, Wagner's Prelude and Liebestod and Berlioz's Roman Carnival Overture will be heard on the program.

November 13, 2010 -- NOT JUST FOR KIDS
Three magnificent compositions usually relegated to school concerts return to the Music Hall: Peter and the Wolf, Carnival of the Animals, and Britten's Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra. Also, selections from the scores of Harry Potter will be included.

February 5th, 2011 at 7 pm, February 6th at 3pm -- GOING BAROQUE
Harpsichorist Ed Parmentier returns with his wife, organist Sin-Ae Chun, to illuminate in its intended style some of the masterpieces of J.S. Bach, Family and Friends. Pieces on the program will include a Handel Organ Concerto and a Bach Brandenburg Concerto. The concert will be held at the magnificent First United Methodist Church, downtown Jackson.

March 19, 2011 -- WHAT'S SO FRENCH ABOUT FRENCH MUSIC?
All cultures are unique but the art, cuisine and music of France from 1870 to 1939 is especially rich and, what else, avant-garde. In addition to the concert that will showcase the music of Bizet, Debussy and Ravel, we will have exhibits and events exploring the marvels of France.

May 7, 2011 -- OUR OWN BACK YARD
This concert marks the beginning of a series featuring many of the talented musicians who currently play in our orchestra or grew up in Jackson. Our principal flutist Richard Sherman will be featured performing Griffes' Poem as well as principal oboe, bassoon, violin and cello in Haydn's Symphony Concertant. The dazzling Capriccio Italien of Tchaikovsky and other concertos, as well as a world premier by Composer-in-Residence Bruce Brown, will complete the evening.
