Program Notes - October 6, 2000

By Composer In Residence Bruce Brown

For its first season of the new millennium the JSO will highlight some of "The World's Greatest Music!" Maestro Osmond has selected unique and exciting pieces from many parts of the globe, and many eras of music history, to create a series of programs living up to this ambitious theme.

Tonight's concert will feature four colorful, dynamic pieces from four different countries, and will highlight the talents of one of the orchestra's finest musicians, flutist Richard Sherman, and a very prominent living composer who once played percussion in the JSO! The musical selections are contrasting, but also have much in common, including the fact that in each case the composer describes an event or idea that inspired the music.
