Maestro Stephen Osmond gave JSO programming a new slant this year when he decided to present one of the season’s subscription concerts at the First Methodist Church in downtown Jackson instead of Potter Center. By making use of the church’s extraordinary Martin Ott pipe organ, with its distinctive sound, the orchestra was able to present an astonishing program that filled the audience with delight and wonder. “The Glory of Organ, Brass and Strings” was presented Saturday night, Nov. 15, and repeated the next day. Musical selections included Guilmant’s “Symphony No. 1 for Organ and Orchestra,” Handel’s “Organ Concerto No. 13”, JSO Composer in Resident’s Bruce Brown’s In this Place” and Joseph Martin’s “Awakening.” Also performing with the JSO was The First United Methodist Church Chancel Choir, Tim Meunier, conductor (shown in photo).
