JSO/CMS - GROUP PLAY-INS AND ENSEMBLES
While private instruction is the core of our instrumental instruction program, participation in both chamber ensembles (string quartets, trios, etc.) and large ensembles (string orchestra, symphony orchestra) is essential to a student’s musical development.
String Academy (Intermediate and Advanced)
Our String Academy program provides advanced musical training for students interested in achieving their highest potential as a string instrumentalist. The program consists of weekly coaching sessions and masterclasses. Students who participate in the String Academy are required to take private lessons at the JSOCMS. An audition and/or recommendation from the student’s private instructor is required for participation in the String Academy.

Group Play-Ins (Beginning and Intermediate)
Our Group Play-Ins provide an opportunity for string students to receive group instruction on a variety of fundamental musical concepts and become familiarized with the basic skills necessary for ensemble performance. These one-hour sessions are held once a month. Students who participate in Group Play-Ins are required to take private lessons at the JSOCMS.
Chamber Ensembles (All Levels)
Private coaching sessions for chamber ensembles, such as string quartets, and woodwind and brass quintets, provide the opportunity for student chamber ensembles to receive focused instruction in the art of chamber performance. All coaching sessions are one hour in duration and may be scheduled for an entire semester or a shorter duration. Please call the JSOCMS office for details about scheduling and tuition for this program.
Large Ensembles (Intermediate and Advanced)
Large ensemble opportunities are available to JSOCMS students through a partnership with the Jackson Youth Symphony Orchestra. Please call the JYSO office at (517) 782-2967 for more information.

Group Classes : Included in Lesson Tuition
Payments are expected in full prior to the beginning of the semester or class.
