Allan Rosenfeld, clarinetist and bass clarinetist with the Charlotte (NC) Symphony Orchestra, began his musical training as a seventh grader in the Jackson Public Schools. His first lessons and performances were under the then Hunt Junior High School band director Ken Spaulding. In addition, Rosenfeld's first orchestral opportunities came as a member of the Jackson Youth Symphony. Rosenfeld pursued clarinet studies as a high school student at the Interlochen Arts Academy, where he graduated in 1980. He received a BA from Amherst College in 1984 and a Master of Music in Clarinet Performance from the University of Michigan in 1986. His principal teachers have been Frank Kowalsky, Michael Sussman, and Fred Ormand. Appointed to his position with the Charlotte Symphony in 1986, Rosenfeld has also performed at numerous summer music festivals; including those of Aspen, Bowdoin, Sarasota, Yale at Norfolk and Graz (Austria). In the summer of 1989, he served as principal clarinetist of the National Repertory Orchestra in Keystone, Colorado. In addition to his full-time orchestral duties in North Carolina, Rosenfeld appears frequently as a recitalist. |
