| Donald
A. Hodges is Professor of Music at the
University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA). For nine years he was director
of university orchestras, conducting the UTSA Orchestra and UTSA Chamber
Orchestra. Previously, he conducted the Columbia (SC) Youth Orchestra and
Philadelphia All-City Junior Orchestra and has guest conducted the San
Antonio Symphony, the Russian Youth Orchestra, the Interlochen Arts Camp
Inter-mediate Concert Orchestra, International Harp Association conference
orchestra, and numerous regional honors orchestras. He also served as
Principal Horn in the Columbia (SC) Philharmonic Orchestra and Lyric
Theatre Opera Orchestra, as Assistant Principal in the Austin Symphony
Orchestra, and in numerous other ensembles.
Dr. Hodges received his undergraduate degree from the University of Kansas and M.M. and Ph.D. from the University of Texas. Academic appointments include the Philadelphia public schools, the University of South Carolina, and Southern Methodist University. In addition to teaching undergraduate and graduate courses and coordinating the music education program, Dr. Hodges serves as Director of the Institute for Music Research (IMR). Dr. Hodges is contributing editor of the Handbook of Music Psychology and the accompanying Multimedia Companion to the Handbook of Music Psychology. He has authored book chapters and papers in music education and music psychology and has made presentations to numerous state, national, and international conferences. Dr. Hodges has served on the editorial boards of Music Educators Journal and Update: Applications of Research in Music Education and is past president of the Texas Music Educators Conference and Texas Coalition for Music Education. Recent research efforts have included brain imaging studies of musicians, supported by a $250,000 grant from the Texaco Foundation. Dr. Hodges has performed, conducted, and lectured throughout the United States, and in Canada, Russia, Israel, Crete, Germany, England, Belgium, Australia, Hong Kong, Singapore and throughout S.E. Asia. |
