Peter Van De Graaff

Bass-baritone Peter Van De Graaff has performed extensively throughout the country. He studied at the University of Michigan and received his bachelor's degree in vocal performance from Brigham Young University. He has sung with the Utah Symphony on numerous occasions, soloing in Shostakovich's 14th Symphony, Beethoven's 9th Symphony, Copland's Old American Songs, Handel's Messiah, and Mozart's Requiem. With the Colorado Springs Symphony, he appeared as Mephistopheles in Berlioz' Damnation of Faust and Beethoven's Missa Solemnis. Other recent orchestral engagements include the San Antonio Symphony, the Washington/Idaho Symphony, and the Wheaton Symphony. He is also active in opera, having sung Colline in La Boheme with the Rochester New York Opera Theater and Milwaukee Opera, Dr. Bartolo in The Marriage of Figaro with Boise Opera and Chamber Opera Chicago, Sarastro in The Magic Flute with Lincoln Opera and Boise Opera, Sparafucile in Rigoletto with Lincoln Opera, and Don Alfonso in Cosi Fan Tutte with Chamber Opera Chicago. He has been very active performing in the Chicago area, where he resides with his wife Kathleen, a soprano, and has sung there with numerous choral groups and orchestras in such works as Mendelssohn's St. Paul, Mozart's Requiem, Handel's Messiah and Bach's St. Matthew Passion. In 1984 he traveled to Israel where he soloed with the Israeli Chamber Orchestra in Handel's Utrecht Jubilate and Mozart's Missa Brevis. He is currently an announcer on Chicago's WFMT radio station, where he hosts a daily nationally syndicated program.
