Jackson Symphony Orchestra

Jackson Symphony Guild
Letter from the President

We have come a long way since the conception of the Jackson Symphony Guild
which started in 1949 with approximately 12 members in the “Jackson Symphony Orchestra’s Women’s Division.” We not only have men who are members of the JSG,
but we have a gentleman serving on our present board as well. Our membership,
which is now around 200, works together to campaign, strengthen and support
the Jackson Symphony Orchestra.

You have obviously taken the first step; you are a member of the JSG. Now I would
like to personally encourage you to become actively involved in this membership.
There are countless ways in which you would be welcomed with open arms as a
volunteer. Please consider helping at the JSO office, as a greeter at our JSO
concerts, join a committee for the Holiday Ball or Jazz Night, volunteer with
the Community Music School, host a guest artist, or help recruit new season ticket holders. These, as well as other volunteer jobs, help make the JSO what it is today.
Feel free to call me if you have a particular interest you would like to take part in,
but are unsure of how to begin.

It is up to us, as members of the Jackson Community, to keep our Symphony strong.
They need the JSG. I look forward to meeting and working with each of you in some
area of volunteerism during the next year. The people within our community have
proven that music and the arts are an essential part of who we are in Jackson, it is
up to us to do our part within our community to keep the music alive and well.

I am excited to partner with you as we continue the work started back in 1949,
to assist the JSO in holding its place as a premiere orchestra, not only in Michigan
but across the United States.

Donna Lake, President
