Jasper Zientek
viola

Jasper Zientek, a Michigan native, joined the Jackson Symphony Orchestra in 2018. Zientek studied with Atar Arad and Steve Wyrczynski at Indiana University Jacobs School of Music as well as with Vicky Chiang at Johns Hopkins Peabody Institute. During his schooling he attended many summer festivals nationally and internationally including National Orchestral Institute (MD,USA) , Casalmaggiore Music Festival (Italy), Summer Academy Leutkirch (Germany), and attended Aspen Summer Music Festival (CO,USA) as a New Horizon Fellow.

In addition to playing with Jackson Symphony Orchestra, Zientek is also a member of the Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra. Zientek also subs with Toledo Symphony Orchestra, Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra, and Detroit Symphony Orchestra.

An avid teacher, Zientek teaches group and private classes in the SE Michigan area. In addition to his own private studio, he teaches lessons at the Emerson School in Ann Arbor, MI and leads group classes at the Ypsilanti Youth Orchestra. Zientek is a regular sectional coach for schools all over the SE Michigan area.

When not playing music or teaching, Zientek enjoys taking care of his 30+ plant collection and exploring new coffee shops on his travels.

Stefan Koch
cello

Stefan Koch is a member of the Jackson Symphony and the Lansing Symphony. In a previous life, he held positions as a national buyer of both books and CDs for Borders Books and Music, and he also has a Master’s Degree in Philosophy from the University of Michigan. Stefan also regularly performs with other orchestras in the area, including the Kalamazoo Symphony, West Michigan Symphony, Toledo Symphony, Detroit Opera, and Grand Rapids Symphony. Since 2007 to 2012 he spent his summers at the Utah Festival Opera in Logan, Utah, where he was Principal Cellist. In 2025 he became the Principal Cellist of Opera in the Ozarks. In 2012 Stefan undertook a series of recitals which were the first US performances of the Cello and Piano Music of the exiled Jewish Viennese composer Richard Stöhr. A CD of this music, with pianist Robert Conway, was released in August 2014 on the Toccata Classics label (London, UK). In 2018 and 2020, he released two other CDs of chamber music by the same composer on the same label, with another CD due out later this year.

Outside of the classical realm, he has also performed with Sarah Brightman, Anne Murray, Barbara Cook, Dionne Warwick & Burt Bacharach, Steve Lawrence & Eydie Gorme, Garrison Keillor, Dave Brubeck, The Boys Choir of Harlem, Mannheim Steamroller, Bernadette Peters, Amy Grant, the Von Trapp Family, Doc Severinsen, Earth Wind & Fire, Harry Connick Jr, Johnny Mathis, and Julius “Dr. J.” Erving. He has also contributed music to the Showtime television movie “The Staircase Murders” (2007) and the French horror film “House of Voices” (2005) and also appeared in a Toyota Highlander television commercial.

When not playing the cello, Stefan enjoys pickleball, biking, hiking, reading, wrestling with his cat Emmylou, and he has visited over 100 major and minor league baseball parks. He is currently attempting to visit all 63 of America’s National Parks, with 51 down and 12 to go.

Daniel Winnick

Daniel Winnick moved to Michigan from New Jersey in 2005, and since then he has built a varied and busy career as a freelance musician in Metro Detroit and beyond. He is a graduate of the University of Michigan, where he studied with Andrew Jennings. Since 2020, Daniel has served as co-concertmaster of the Michigan Philharmonic, which is based in Plymouth. He also performs with the Jackson Symphony Orchestra, Flint Symphony Orchestra, Battle Creek Symphony Orchestra, Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra, Lansing Symphony Orchestra, and ÆPEX Contemporary Ensemble.

In addition to his work with orchestras, Daniel has performed extensively with the CutTime Simfonica of former Detroit Symphony Orchestra bassist Rick Robinson, and he is a member of the Troubadours, a musical storytelling group representing the Flint Institute of Music. Other chamber music appearances have included guest performances with the Burdick-Thorne String Quartet of the Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra. Formerly a member of the indie-folk band The Thornbills, Daniel has joined string sections for recordings by nationally-known artists, including the R&B singer Kem in sessions led by the legendary Motown musician Paul Riser. He has appeared with the Transsiberian Orchestra, Mannheim Steamroller, and the 2018 national tour of the musical ‘Chicago.’

Phoebe Gelzer-Govatos
violin

Phoebe Gelzer-Govatos, violinist, performs with a number of orchestras and chamber ensembles throughout Michigan, including the Ann Arbor, Jackson, Lansing, and Kalamazoo symphony orchestras, and presently holds the position of principal second violin in the Adrian Symphony. In addition, she specializes in the historically-informed performance of 17th and 18th century music, playing with early music groups across the country and coaching high school and college students in baroque style and technique. Phoebe resides in Ann Arbor, Michigan, where she maintains a private violin studio, coaches chamber music at the Rudolf Steiner High School, and likes to involve herself in creative endeavors of all kinds.
