WHAT IS TRADITIONAL IRISH MUSIC?

Traditional Irish music, also known as trad music, has been passed from generation to generation for over 2,000 years without ever being written down until the 1700s. It remains one of the most popular styles of folk music out of Europe today. You can hear the influence of trad music in the works of many popular artists from Van Morrison, Sinéad O’Connor, and Thin Lizzy to the Dropkick Murphys. This often energetic traditional style is commonly played at weddings, in the pub for casual gatherings, at house parties, and of course to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day.

Currently, the Potter Center is requiring all guests to wear masks for your safety. Events taking place at Weatherwax Hall will no longer require masks, but we continue to encourage people to wear them.
