Celebrate Love with the Timeless Power of Beethoven

The Jackson Symphony Orchestra’s Classical Concert Series continues its 76th season with 5, 4, 3, Beethoven!, a program celebrating the enduring brilliance of one of classical music’s most influential composers. Taking place on Friday, February 13 and Saturday, February 14 at 7:30pm, and Sunday, February 15 at 2pm at Weatherwax Hall (215 W. Michigan Ave.), this concert features pianist Evren Ozel in an evening filled with passion, power, and triumph.

The program opens with Beethoven’s Leonore Overture No. 3, drawn from his only opera, Fidelio. This dramatic work tells a story of courage, devotion, and the triumph of love over adversity, setting an emotional tone for the evening.

Next, Ozel joins the orchestra for Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 4, a masterpiece known for its lyric beauty and warmth. Unlike many concertos of its time, the work begins quietly and introspectively, unfolding into a radiant dialogue between soloist and orchestra.

The concert concludes with Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5, one of the most recognizable works in all of Western music. From its iconic four-note opening to its blazing final triumph, the symphony traces a powerful journey from struggle to victory.

“Tonight’s program invites us to reflect on music that is truly timeless—music fueled by passion, power, and an unmistakable human energy that continues to resonate across centuries,” said Jackson Symphony Orchestra Music Director Matthew Aubin.
