Held at the Jackson County Tower Ballroom in collaboration with the Jackson County Fair, this concert offers a serene and sophisticated musical escape, bringing the magic of the theater to an intimate setting.

Belle Coty
harp

Belle is a versatile harpist and arts administrator who serves as the Director of Fund and Audience Development for the Jackson Symphony Orchestra. As a performer, she appears regularly as a soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral harpist, with experience playing for the Lansing Symphony Orchestra, Jackson Symphony Orchestra, Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra, and Adrian Symphony Orchestra.

Belle holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in harp performance from Michigan State University, along with a minor in Music Entrepreneurship and a certificate in Music Career Development. She is a past leader within the Capitol Harp Ensemble and the West Michigan Harp Chapter of the American Harp Society, Inc.

Recognized with Jackson’s “30 and Under Award” and “Emerging Leader Award,” Belle brings both artistic and community-focused leadership to her work. She maintains a private teaching studio and lives in Jackson, MI with her husband, Ian, and their dog, Cinnabun.

Mady Steffen
flute

Mady Steffen is an active performer and educator from Grand Rapids, MI. She joined the Jackson Symphony Orchestra in 2022, after playing with the orchestra as a performance fellow since 2018. She has also performed as part of the orchestra for the S’Wonderful and Best of Bernstein broadway performances at the Wharton Center and made substitute appearances with the Lansing, Southwest Michigan, and Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestras.

Mady has played for several recordings, including Jackson Symphony Orchestra’s Equal Billing Project Fernande Decruck: Concertante Works and Michigan State University Wind Symphony’s Music of John Mackey (2017) and Music of Ricardo Lorenz (2019). As an Educator, Mady has worked as a fute technician for marching bands across the state of Michigan, including groups such as Jenison and Rockford High Schools, as a sectional coach, performance clinician, and private lesson teacher. She teaches flute students of all ages in her private lesson studio and is currently on faculty at the Ada Conservatory of Music. She holds a Master of Music in Music Performance from Michigan State University with a Graduate Certificate in Music Career Development. Mady completed her Bachelor of Music Education at Michigan State, where she earned many scholarships and awards, including the Presser Foundation Scholarship and Board of Trustees’ Scholarship Award.

Jed Fritzemeier
bass

Jed Fritzemeier is the Director of Music Education for the Jackson Symphony Orchestra and the Director of the Jackson Youth Symphony Orchestra. He worked as the Orchestra Director for the Chelsea School District from 1985-2019. Jed is an Emeritus Member of the Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association and is the current President of the Michigan Chapter of the American String Teachers Association.

In 2009, Jed was voted “Orchestra Teacher of the Year” by the Michigan Chapter of the American String Teachers Association and the Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association. In 2007, Jed was inducted into the Lincoln High School Hall of Fame in his hometown of Sioux Falls, South Dakota. 

As a graduate from the U of Michigan ‘85 in Double Bass performance with a teaching certificate as a student of Lawrence Hurst, Jed currently performs with the Jackson Symphony Orchestra and substitutes for the Michigan Opera Theater Orchestra in Detroit. Jed credits U of M Professor Robert Culver and student teacher supervisor Robert Phillips for inspiring him to teach in the public schools.

Jed has presented workshops at the Midwest Convention in Ann Arbor, MI, three times; at the Kentucky Music Educators symposium; as part of the Minnesota All-State teacher training program. He has conducted festival orchestras in Minnesota, Kentucky, South Dakota and Wisconsin. Jed has been a member of the Toledo Symphony, the Ann Arbor Symphony, the Meadowbrook Festival Orchestra, the Northwood Symphony, the Flint Symphony, the South Dakota Symphony and the Waukesha Symphony. Jed has also performed with the Doc Walker Jazz Quartet, the Saline Big Band and various polka, country, rock and folk bands throughout the country. He plays bass regularly in a jazz trio with Brian Brill, piano and Wes Fritzemeier, Drums and has performed with Jeff Daniels at the Purple Rose Theater in Chelsea.

At the top of his achievements is his marriage to his better half, Nancy of 42 years and the appearance of his two amazing children: son Wesley, a graduate of Eastern Michigan University in actuary science and Grand Valley University finance graduate daughter Ella.
